Ways To Avoid Being Locked Out Of Your Home

Posted on: 14 October 2016

Getting locked out of your home is no fun, and trying to gain access can result in costly damages to your doors or windows. Yet, there are things you can do to avoid the inconvenience of a lockout without climbing through an unlocked window. Here are a few of them:

Hide a key under a rock.

Having a spare key can certainly help you maintain access to your home, even if you have misplaced your primary key. However, a spare key will not help if you can't locate it when you need it.

Consider placing a spare key beneath a decorative rock in your yard. If you don't have a suitable rock, consider purchasing a rock-shaped key holder from a local locksmith. The key holder should be difficult to distinguish from a common rock on your property but still easy for you to locate when you need it.

Have a keypad entry mechanism installed.

Having an alternative way to enter your home in case of a lockout can help you avoid a lengthy wait outside. Electronic keypads are sometimes used by homeowners to access their home. The keypad allows you to enter a preset numeric code to unlock your door. The code is usually selected by you, so it should be easy to remember. However, if you ever have reason to believe that the code has been compromised, it is best to select a new one.

Install a security system with remote access.

Some security systems are monitored remotely by a paid security service. When you call the service, a remote operator can disarm the system or open a locked door if the need arises.

Have multiple spares made and give them to friends or family members.

One of the easiest ways to get assistance during a lockout is by calling a friend that you have previously given a spare key. If you choose to have someone hold an extra key for you, be sure that the recipient is trustworthy and willing to bring you the key or have you pick it up in case of an emergency. If your neighbor is also a friend, it may be a good option to have him or her maintain a key copy for you.

If you would like to ensure that you have the assistance you need in case of a lockout, get in touch with a locksmith in your area to discuss your questions.

Discussing Modern Home Security Systems

Hi there, I am Dinah. Welcome to my website about home security. When I moved out into a rural area on my own, I was constantly jumping at every strange noise and shadow. To provide myself with true peace of mind, I invested in a protective home security system. The system monitored my windows and doors, so I could feel safe and secure within my home. The system also protected my home while I was away. My site will cover all of the features and benefits of modern home security systems. Please feel free to visit my site anytime to learn more.
